This page displays a non-exhaustive list of relevant publications, made publicly accessible by EU institutions and international organisations:

• Biomass supply and demand in the EU 2012-2022 (2025) – This brief summarises the most recent JRC assessment of biomass supply and demand in the EU, covering the years 2012-2022. It combines two workstreams: the analysis of biomass supply data, and the analysis of biomass demand data.
• State of Europe's Forests (2025) - learn more about the status and trends in forests and forestry in the pan-European region.
• EU biomass supply, uses, governance and regenerative actions - 10 year anniversary (2025) – This report is the fourth comprehensive public report by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) entirely dedicated to the topic of biomass. This report also marks the ten-year anniversary of what has come to be known as the JRC Biomass Mandate.
• Biomass report, full report (2023) – know more on biomass sources and uses for the agricultural, forestry, algae, and fisheries and aquaculture sectors with the latest available data, both in comparative terms (using the same units), as well as with deep dives into the sectors themselves.
• Biomass report, summary for policymakers (2023) – read this summary of the JRC Biomass Mandate 2023 report "Biomass production, supply, uses and flows in the European Union", presenting selected facts, figures and findings.
• Forest products in the global bioeconomy (2022) – learn how forest products contribute to replacing fossil-based and GHG-intensive products, strengthening sustainable development.
• The use of woody biomass for energy production in the EU (2020) – read this JRC report on the whole value chain of woody biomass, from the primary wood production, to the processing and uses of wood; to its re-use and end of life.
• The State of the World’s Forests (published biennially) - access this detailed situation report by FAO on the state of the world’s forests and the progress in the forest sector.
• Global Forest Resources Assessment - The Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) presents a comprehensive view of the world’s forests and the ways in which the resource is changing.
• Wood resource balances of European Union and Member States (2009-2017 data): discover uses and sources of woody biomass at EU and Member State's scale.
