The fragmentation of large, activated components of the nuclear power plant's primary circuit is the biggest technical challenge within the decommissioning process and is unique to each type of NPP. With the completion of the remotely controlled underwater fragmentation operations of the activated primary circuit components and subsequent RAW management, 99.9% of the radioactivity is removed from the V1 NPP while significantly reducing the level of potential radiation risk by the end of the V1 NPP decommissioning. This knowledge product represents a success story and describes the experience of remotely controlled fragmentation of large, activated components of the V1 NPP primary circuits. It will also describe lessons learned from the use of technical means and civil structures that were also used during the V1 NPP operation.
