Processing wet radioactive waste is considered a challenging area of radioactive waste management worldwide. The complexity of this issue is based on the properties of stored waste, which forms a non-homogeneous mixture of solids, liquids, dissolved salts and crystals. Inhomogeneity and changing characteristics of the stored waste are causing uncertainties in the characterization and quantification of waste and the technical problems related to the transportation and processing of waste. This knowledge product will include handling the sludge and sorbents from the V1 NPP operation.
