Horticulture roadmap summary. The road to sustainable horticulture 2024-2034

  • Publication | 2026

Fruits and vegetables are vital for health: they help to combat the vitamin and micronutrient deficiencies and unbalanced diets linked to increased consumption of ultra-processed foods. However, horticulture worldwide faces major challenges: high synthetic pesticide use, dependence on water supplies, decreased soil fertility and high pre- and postharvest losses. CIRAD is supporting the sector’s agroecological transition, to allow it to produce sustainably while improving working conditions and incomes, notably for the most vulnerable.
