Head of Sector: Science for Organizational Change,

I am a cognitive scientist working at the intersection between people and technology. I lead a team focusing on organisational change.

I lead a team working on the science of organisational change at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC). We manage and develop Knowledge for Policy as a key corporate platform to help JRC knowledge reach policymakers and facilitate knowledge brokerage.

My team works at the intersection of behavioural and organisational science and the practice of public administration, and we represent the JRC in the Commission’s Centre for Organisational Transformation. Our aim is to bring the best available evidence on how people collaborate, learn and adapt into the way the Commission and other public institutions organise themselves, take decisions and manage change.

Within the Centre, we translate research on the psychology of change, social networks and collective intelligence into practical guidance for those who lead and support transformation across the Commission. That guidance covers the full course of a change process, from diagnosing the need and readiness for change to designing interventions and sustaining them over time.

A central strand of our work concerns human-AI collaboration. We synthesise research on how AI affects individual work, collaboration and team cohesion, as well as longer-term questions of cognitive augmentation and decline. We then translate it into evidence-based principles for practice, for the Commission, Member States and policy areas such as employment and education. I am particularly interested in the case for augmentation rather than automation: how AI can be designed and deployed to extend human judgement and capability rather than substitute for it, and what this implies for institutions, skills and the future of work.

Before joining the Commission in 2021, I spent several years in applied policy research at GfK and Ipsos, designing and managing large-scale studies for the European Commission and other international institutions. My academic background combines psychology and business, with a PhD in persuasive communication from Ghent University.

I am happy to connect with colleagues across the Commission, Member States and research communities who work on human-AI collaboration, organisational change or the future of public institutions.
