A Joint Research Centre (JRC) platform offering accessible, relevant knowledge for European policymakers and researchers
I am an oncology nurse, academic and researcher with more than 15 years of clinical, research, education and scientific leadership experience across Spain and the UK. My work sits at the intersection of cancer care, nursing, precision medicine, genomics, health inequalities and evidence-informed practice, with a particular interest in translating scientific knowledge into meaningful improvements in healthcare and patient outcomes.
My clinical and research expertise is centred on oncology and hereditary cancer syndromes, including the integration of genomics and precision oncology into routine care. My PhD explored the experiences and support needs of people living with hereditary cancer syndromes, with a focus on bridging knowledge gaps and developing more inclusive approaches to follow-up and care. I have subsequently contributed to research and educational initiatives addressing genomic literacy among healthcare professionals, hereditary cancer, precision oncology, cancer survivorship and the needs of people affected by less survivable cancers.
I have extensive experience working across disciplines and sectors, bringing together healthcare professionals, researchers, patients and public representatives to develop evidence-based resources, education and research. Patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE), equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), and meaningful stakeholder participation are important components of my approach. I am particularly interested in how evidence can be co-produced with those who use and deliver healthcare, and how research findings can be translated into practice, education and policy.
Alongside my academic and clinical work, I contribute to international medical education and scientific initiatives, including projects involving oncology, precision medicine, genomics and professional education. I have experience developing and leading multidisciplinary projects, conducting qualitative and mixed-methods research, developing educational programmes and guidance, synthesising evidence, and communicating complex scientific information to different audiences.
My interests within the broader health policy and knowledge-to-policy landscape include cancer prevention and early detection, equitable access to precision and genomic medicine, cancer care quality, workforce education and capacity building, patient-centred and participatory approaches to healthcare, and reducing inequalities in access to evidence-based care.
I am particularly interested in connecting research, clinical experience and policy perspectives to support practical, equitable and sustainable improvements in health systems. I value interdisciplinary collaboration and international perspectives, and I am keen to contribute clinical and research expertise to European initiatives where scientific evidence needs to be translated into policy and practice.
