  • Projects and activities | Last updated: 11 Oct 2021

Brief me

01/2019-12/2019

Key objective: To provide insights and recommendations to policy-makers/authorities/practitioners engaged in developing national and local innovation ecosystems about emerging models for public-private sector interaction.

Stakeholder groups: Science and technology parks, International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation, policy-makers engaged in initiating, designing, planning, developing, operating and supporting science and technology parks, innovation districts and other areas of innovation; policy-makers engaged in negotiating public-private partnerships (PPPs) or other forms of longer term collaborations with private partners for the financing, construction, operation and management of innovation infrastructures.

Project summary: The JRC has observed an emerging model of utilising long term complex Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models not only for the constructions and operation of science and technology parks (STP) but also more broadly for the regeneration of the whole urban area and eventually serving the revitalisation of the local community. The JRC, with the professional support of a panel of experts experienced in the domain, is trying to identify how these emerging models for public-private sector interaction are currently applied. The study is being conducted in collaboration with the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) and some of their network members.
